PIASD PRINTING SEMINAR PIASD Printing Seminar Featuring Preflighting Presented by Neil Bruington The seminar was held in the Training Room at Marcoa Publishing (the room overlooks the press room). Attendees enjoyed refreshments throughout the day like croissants, muffins, cookies, apples. Lunch consisted of sandwiches and chips.
Neil Bruington, Palomar College Graphic Arts instructor for over 25 yrs, led a thorough overview of the printing industry that include explanations of each process from design through production, and clarifications of terms, etc. Joyce Pekala, Sales Manager for Kirk/Nationwide/xpedx with over 20 yrs of experience in the industry, led a paper basics section that reviewed the paper making process and how paper affects each print job. Attendees received several resources like informational binders, Markzware preflight software, production check lists, color guides, paper samples and swatch books. Attendees got to see first hand how the printing process works with Pre-press and Press Room Tours led by Marcoa Personnel. Ray Falvey, Production Manager, led the group on the pre-press tour where pre-flighting and common pitfalls/errors on the design end were cleared up. Joe Stoekl, Pressroom Manager, led the pressroom tour where the group got to see the presses in action up close and review press sheets. |
