Many of you QuarkXPress users out there may have heard of our PasteBoard XT. For those new to it, this Quark XTension, one of the oldest out there, changes the width and height of the QuarkXPress pasteboard. It allows one to adjust by value as well as by percentage, giving a wider range of options than that within the QuarkXPress application. Pasteboard costs only $29.00 and is available for Mac and runs in Quark 7 or Quark 8.

In the past, as in QuarkXPress v3.33 past, there was a version of Pasteboard XTension that was a requirement in order to work with the document. (Ask some of the older ones of us about those times!) We of course adjusted that, however you may find the need for our free XTerminator Quark XT, now called the  Kill PasteBoard XT which will remove the requirement of needing Pasteboard, for really old, almost legacy files you may come across.

Check it out. It is like a social network site, but only for those into Quark Projects, layouts and XTensions.

We are working hard on new features and functions for our preflight and conversion software and as such, are always glad to share other customer experiences, including with QXP, Adobe InDesign CS3 and Adobe InDesign CS4 (preflight a file without InDesign missing quality control checkpoints). Bad, corrupted or crashing Adobe InDesign software documents are unfortunately a reality. Hopefully this will not be something you experience, but if you do, here is a great work-around for recovering flaky InDesign layout files. Note – here is a listing of the various InDesign error or crash messages you may get:

These are the instructions, with inventory list of software (XTensions and Plug-ins) needed. It is a work-around, however one which is working quite well…
SEE BELOW FOR A SERVICE WE ARE OFFERING TO *FIX* THESE FILES…

*QuarkXPress 6 or 7
*ID2Q from Markzware loaded
-Open InDesign file in QuarkXPress via ID2Q (Under “Utilities)
-Save (hopefully) converted bad InDesign file now as a QuarkXpress file to your desktop with a “.qxp” extension.
*InDesign CS2 or CS3
*Q2ID plugin from Markzware
-In InDesign (after Q2ID is loaded) simply to a “file->open”
-Select the salvaged file now in a “.qxp” or QuarkXPress form
*** If it opens, it is generally RECOVERED!***

TIP- after you get the InDesign salvaged it is BEST to then EXPORT it as an “.INX” or Adobe Interchange format.. this will zap any corruption that may be lingering in most cases… then you can work-on!  Read more... (357 words, estimated 1:26 mins reading time)
