POSTFLIGHT
Prozess des Analysierens von bereits verarbeiteten Daten (PostScript, PDF, DCS2, etc.) zur Qualitätskontrolle in einem digitalen Prepress-Workflow.

Color management is like colour management only spelled differently. That about sums up color for many in print media; it is the same color on that screen as on my printed brochure, only it looks different, cries the corporate customer, to the prepress operators dismay. In this tutorial video we get into the deep details on how FlightCheck Professional (Out any day now with CS4 and Quark 8 support) can help you in preflighting color

… and for that matter preflighting colour (ok, enough jokes with words, but some do call it color preflighting) in a detailed fashion -

a full transcript is below: In this movie I would like to address some problems you might encounter when you work with InDesign layouts QuarkXPress, Adobe Illustrator (YES, FlightCheck does preflight Illustrator files and package all fonts and images too! Video: How to preflight Adobe Illustrator files…) or any other layout application in which you are able to use colors. Let’s dive in…

On the Evolution of PDF; Adobe PDF/X-5g with OPI type prepress workflow

Posted in Markzware News, Q2ID (QuarkXPress to Adobe InDesign) on August 25th, 2009 by David Dilling – 3 Comments

Have you ever heard of PDF/X-5g (see below), an OPI similar prepress workflow involving PDF’s? Here was an interesting download from an Adobe Blog titled, “On the Evolution of PDF” by Jim King. It goes over PDF compatibility issues with Acrobat reader, Acrobat and what will be addressed in the next Adobe update or future Adobe updates. Here was the section that is most relevant us in electronic publishing, prepress and printing:

6.0  PDF Profiles (i.e., subsets)
Many proper profiles of PDF have become ISO standards. They allow support for various vertical markets more effectively than open-ended PDF might. These standards efforts also bring together a group of knowledgeable and experienced people in those vertical markets. Here is the current list of ISO standards that are subsets of PDF:
6.1  PDF/X (ISO 15930) – targeted for prepress workflows.
• ISO 15930-1:2001: PDF/X-1a:2001, Blind exchange in CMYK + Spot Colors, based
on PDF 1.3
• ISO 15930-3:2002: PDF/X-3:2002, Allows CMYK, Spot, Calibrated (managed) RGB,
CIELAB, with ICC Profile, based on PDF 1.3.
• ISO 15930-4:2003: PDF/X-1a:2003, revision of PDF/X-1a:2001 based on PDF 1.4
• ISO 15930-5: PDF/X-2, An extension of PDF/X-3 which allows for OPI-like (external
linked) data to be included
• ISO 15930-6:2003: PDF/X-3:2003, revision of PDF/X-3:2002 based on PDF 1.4
• ISO 15930-7:2008: PDF/X-4, Colour-managed, CMYK, gray, RGB or spot colour data
are supported, as are PDF transparency and optional content. A second conformance
level named PDF/X-4p may be used when the ICC Profile in the output intent is exter-
nally supplied.
• ISO 15930-8:2008 PDF/X-5,a collection of three conformance levels:

Adobe PDF and Adobe InDesign Preflight without CS Plugins; keep it simple…

Posted in Markzware FlightCheck, Markzware Preflight For Print, Preflight News on June 6th, 2009 by David Dilling – 7 Comments

Here was a post that showed up on my “preflight” watch-list this weekend, which I found interesting:

It also would be nice if it was possible to preflight InDesign documents if there were any untagged RGB images used. My intension is to create an InDesign script to preform a preflight.

I would like to preflight PDF-documents if there any RGB-images without any embedded ICC-profile. I only want to check RGB-images and not the CMYK’s. I just want this to be a warning so I can contact the supplier of the PDF-document. I don’t want to assign any profile to the images. Is this possible in Acrobat Pro 9 or Pitstop 08?It is possible to check if there are any untagged images, but I just want to check the RGB ones.

It is important to note that FlightCheck Professional would be the *perfect* candidate for this task, as it can preflight both the PDF as well as the InDesign Adobe file and many other file types besides Adobe InDesign files. FCPro can also specifically let you know if the Adobe PDF has RGB images which do not have ICC Profiles attached and ignore the CMYK images.
