PDF Preflight Problems, Native file preflight; preflighting article

Posted in Markzware News on October 28th, 2009 by David Dilling – Be the first to comment

I caught this article, “Top Ten Articles on Digital-Engineer.net” over on Graphicstart, which had one, very interesting piece in it’s top ten list:

7. Preflighters around the world: This is you

If we click on that preflight article above, we see it is about an Enfocus survey on preflighting (As Tele2002 accurately said in the first comment, that is more “postflighting“, but anyway.). It is the last comment which I also wanted to share, for it brings home the importance of education;

Yes I suppose so! I didn’t know about Prepressure and have bookmarked it. Looks like I’ve got me some reading to do! Great info about JDF as well.

The boys from Markzware also wrote about this topic: PDF Preflight Problems; same as fifteen years ago -Enfocus survey results

On that note, don’t forget that FlightCheck Professional, the tool for both the native file preflight as well as the postflight or check on the resulting PDF document, is out as version 6.5. Check out all of the new features and functions for Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat PDF, QuarkXPress and more here:

On ID2Q v4 or InDesign to Quark XT: “It’s saved me hours of work already – can’t quite believe it.”

Here was a nice email that was forwarded to me from Quark about a happy customer of both QuarkXPress v8 and ID2Q v4 or InDesign to Quark XT, which I would like to share in part:

“Thank you for your very quick response. I have just installed the XTension and used it to convert an ID CS4 document that I urgently needed to amend for someone who only uses Quark – and it worked perfectly! It’s saved me hours of work already – can’t quite believe it. I’ll pass on my appreciation to Marksware – excellent product!

On that note, You’ll see that there are still plenty of happy Quark users out there, like Mike here, whom appears to use Adobe Photoshop happily with QuarkXPress, which I saw on Twitter:

Not all Adobe CS users choose InDesign, but some QuarkXPress...

Here was an interesting Tweet I saw on GraphicStart’s watch list for tracking all things Quark on Twitter:

Find anything that passes through Twitter that has to do with the layout application QuarkXPress.

Acrobat 9 Preflight powered by Callas

Posted in Markzware News on June 2nd, 2008 by David Dilling – Be the first to comment

Adobe Acrobat 9 was announced over this weekend. It has a variety of new features and functions including Flash built-in and several online options, such as Buzzword and Connect. Another option which has supposedly been enhanced is their preflight feature, or postflight as we like to call it. This is powered by Callas Software in Germany.

“On June 2nd, 2008, Adobe Systems Inc. announced Acrobat 9. And for the fourth time since 2003, there is callas software’s technology inside in the form of Preflight. Throughout the last five years Preflight has turned into the reference implementation when it comes to X-raying PDFs.”

Now my question is, how will a Flash animation output or print? Speaking of Flash animations, check out this amusing one on a preflight operator, the FlightCheck eagle and the StickMan. Remember to preflight with FlightCheck after using Acrobat 9 and the Adobe Acrobat 9 pro upgrade.

Printing Tools for Prepress and Printing Professionals

There are many plug-in’s that offer useful enhancements to Adobe InDesign. Here is one that claims to offer error-free output from Badia called Printools.

Badia Printools for Adobe InDesign CS3 provides prepress and printing professionals with a powerful collection of printing tools for automated and error-free output. In one comprehensive package you get batch printing of multiple documents, rename at print, print to file in different formats, and preflighting. You can even combine several of these tools during the same print session to streamline complex printing tasks.
