Marchese states “No love-loss between Apple and Adobe” – Steve Jobs says, “Adobe is lazy.”

Posted in Markzware News on February 1st, 2010 by David Dilling – 1 Comment

Patrick Marchese, CEO of Markzware, had this to say in a comment on what Steve Job’s is rumored to have said about Adobe, FLASH and the iPad in this Wired.com piece titled, “Google’s ‘Don’t Be Evil’ Mantra is ‘Bullshit,’ Adobe Is Lazy: Apple’s Steve Jobs“:

“imo, there has been no love-loss between Apple and Adobe going all the way back to the TrueType vs Type 1 wars. But, (software) Type 1, PostScript, then PageMaker, started the Desktop Publishing Revolution, not exclusively Apple. So, it again appears that Adobe again is trying to cater to the Apple’s hardware, the iPad: http://www.markzware.com/blogs/adobe-illustrator-indesign-ipad-coming-soon-adobe-asks-feedback/2010/02/01/ and (maybe taking credit for another revolution) regardless how much Steve might not want it to happen…”

GOOG to get BINGED off iPhone by Apple?

Apple Said to be Talking With Microsoft to Replace Google on iPhone… (Bloomberg)

Bing has not looked bad as a search engine, this is very true. Wow, between Android, China and now this, has not really been Google’s week (Stock symbol: GOOG) – Conspiracy corner: Little know fact: Bill Gates made a huge investment in Apple, before Jobs came back on the scene in the late 90’s (1997)…. That’s right, Microsoft is (was?) a happy investor in Apple and literally may have saved the company at the conjuncture as well! See:

Meta data clouds – Graphic Designers, Publishers and Printers alike

Since ICANN, approved the use of non-Latin characters in domain names today, I thought we would stick on the Internet side with this post. Jörg Oyen, the publishing, Adobe and Quark QPS expert friend of ours over in Germany at Oyen.de, sent me a rather ominous Instant message on Skype the other day, “Do you like balls”? he asked. For some reason, I thought, “oh, must be Google Balls” for it sounds very Googlish (sp?) No, he meant Tagul balls or Tagul meta clouds. Here, you can see Jörg’s meta ball from his site here:

Here is the Markzware meta data cloud (no mystery here):

Beware! This Markzware cloud is not complete and this is limitation of Tagul only getting the first 350 keywords or something to that effect. We see FlightCheck in there, but no Q2ID or ID2Q, our popular Quark-to-InDesign and the other way around as well, conversion tools.

Want to see how we made this? Watch the video here, for good control over your meta data, keywords and general SEO is very important for graphic designers, publishers and printers alike (Yes, print-shops included!):

In this “making of” the AMERICAN PRINTER TV crew film an interview with Patrick Marchese, Co-founder and CEO of Markzware and a subsequent demonstration of some new, exciting desktop search technology, for indexing and extracting your desktop publishing formats, such as Adobe InDesign and QuarkXPress, from this well know preflight (FlightCheck) and conversion (Quark to InDesign) software developer… more below, but first the video:

Patrick tells us what PageZephyr, the name of this new technology is and briefly what it does. Doug Rosen shows how it works and I stuck in the middle there a small SnapzPro captured demo of some of the key functions of PageZepher. In a nut-shell, it is:

Index, Search, View, Extract and Distribute

QuarkXPress and Adobe InDesign Content -

Partial Transcript:

Gonna do a video demonstration for American PrinterTV on the new PageZephyr…. the filming of, the making of… Basically start with your name… are you ready Doug, getting nervous? No more nervous than normal!

OK, whenever your ready (says the camera man to Patrick)…

Hi my name is Pat Marchese with Markzware and I’m here to introduce a brand new product by the name of PageZephyr (PageZepher). What PageZephyr is, is a reader for Quark, InDesign and soon Publisher PageMaker and other document types.

Google, Apple, Twitter and Markzware

Posted in Markzware News on May 6th, 2009 by David Dilling – 1 Comment

Today I learned of the rumor that Apple is in talks to buy Twitter for 700 million via an email from MacUser in the UK, which read:

There has been a lot of talk this week about Apple buying micro-blogging service Twitter, with rumors of a $700 million offering on the table. Apple is just one of many companies that has been linked with a possible take-over of the service. (See full story here.)

I disagree with MacUser’s notion (story here) that there is no logical reason for Apple to buy Twitter. Imho, it would be a bargain at 700 mil. The biggest challenge Twitter faces is how to monetize itself. With Apple at the helm, the service ‘itself’ would be like one big marketing costs, with huge exposure and potential ROI. Not to mention it is widely used via the iPhone. Lastly, it would also slide Apple into the search market, which in-and-of itself, will lead to a serious revenue stream. For instance… I use Twitter search for monitoring real-time events. Hands down, you get more information, faster, via Twitter than MSM (Main Stream Media) and often better eye-witness accounts. Which leads me to the next bit, which I of course learned via a RT from @ilovetypography.

Google finds the ‘next big thing’

Posted in ID2Q (Adobe InDesign To QuarkXPress), Markzware Conversion Tools, Markzware News, Pub2ID (Publisher to Adobe InDesign), Q2ID (QuarkXPress to Adobe InDesign) on March 31st, 2009 by David Dilling – 1 Comment

Here is an interesting and seemingly smart move by Google, to help them find the ‘next big thing‘ out there…

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — Google Inc. (GOOG) said late Monday it’s launching a new venture capital fund. The Mountain View, Calif. Internet search firm will commit $100 million in the first year, The Wall Street Journal reported. “We think the current downturn is an ideal time to invest in nascent companies that have the chance to be the ‘next big thing,’ and we’ll be working hard to find them,” Google said on its official blog. The posting on the blog was authored by Rich Miner and Bill Maris, managing partners, Google Ventures. Google joins other big cap companies such as Intel (INTC) and General Electric (GE) in funding smaller companies.

What is the ‘next big thing‘ in print-media? Will it be PDF/VT or a new way to share, manipulate and use your content? What are your ideas? Oh yes and of course moving ink- that sure is taking it’s time though… My personal favorite is the printed blog!
