Do FREE data conversion to Word services work?

Free data conversion services look good on the shiny web-page surface, but I recommend you try these out before jumping up and down. For instance, check this out. Some of my colleagues forwarded me this and asked me to post our findings. They tried http://www.pdftoword.com/ and both got back a message similar to this:

From: “PDF to Word” <no-reply@mail.pdftoword.com>
Subject: [PDF to Word] Failed to convert Xxxxxxxxxxxx.pdf

Now, this could be just a fluke, but the point is you don’t get nothing for free. As the Dutch often say about making purchases (loosely translated), “A cheap purchase is a bad purchase.” (Well, anyway, rhymes in Dutch, really!)

And on that investment note, this one was rather interesting:

Can I convert Quark 7 to Indesign without plugin Q2ID?

The simple answer is yes – but you don’t want to. It will take too much time, maybe another version of Quark (like 4, or 5) – maybe another machine (like a PPC Mac). Digging up older applications, older machines is just too much. The Markzware Adobe InDesign Plugin or QuarkXPress XTension are only 199 dollars/euros respectfully – a fraction of what it would take to find stuff you need to even start to think about converting a file.

Often times, since other companies purchase the Q2IDv4 or ID2Qv4 products they start their own ‘conversion service.’ Markzware does not allow for this as stated in the EULA (End User License Agreement). They oftentimes charge $150/document! You see anyone in the world can create a business – on the shoulders of our development investment. The reason being is that ‘the Markzware conversion tools work.’ But is it fair to Markzware for a company to do this? Go ahead and give us your opinion.

In closing, we are not asking much and often have nice promotional discounts, so go Dutch and have a great day/evening!
